Intersport Elverys Rollout New POS Tills Throughout Ireland

Elverys Sports was established in 1847 and is the oldest sports store in Ireland. Intersport Elverys have expanded from a single store operation to 46 stores nationwide with over 700 hundred staff and are proud to be wholly Irish owned.

Early in 2021, Elverys faced a challenge-

  • How to deploy leading edge Hardware and Software into their retail estate without impacting internal day to day I.T support Operations or delay other critical  I.T. Projects.

 Critical criteria of the project  included identifying a partner with;

  • A track record in delivering complex IT projects across a retail estate
  • Strong Project Management resources
  • Single Point of contact for Hardware and licensing procurement
  • Off-Site Staging facilities and capability
  • Experienced Retail IT deployment Engineers
  • The skills and culture to work professionally with the Elverys IT team at every stage

Having worked successfully with Store Computer Technology (SCT) in the past, the decision to engage SCT as their project partner was quickly made.

The Project

Scheduling

Detailed schedules we drawn up to minimize downtime in store at all times. The schedule required;

  • The deployment would not impact in any way on store trading
  • Designed to complete the deployment by a set end date
  • Factor in staggered hardware and licensing delivery dates and potential delays
  • Flexibility in scheduling to cater for changing customer requirements

Communications

Real-time information on Project Progress, POS by POS installation, was relayed to Elverys by the deployment team through the SCT Projects Client Portal. Information relayed back to the customer included;

  • Quality Checks as defined by the customer
  • System Checks as defined by the customer
  • Asset and License Information per POS/per STORE
  • Project progress v Customer KPI’s
  • Photographic evidence of onsite installs
  • Customer Sign-off and evidence the POS is ready to trade

While achieving all the objectives defined at the outset by the customer, this project was completed on time and within budget.

Top Tips To Keep Your Tills Running

Retailers often forget about their in store technology until something goes wrong. By which time, getting it fixed is a serious concern.  Here are a few tips to ensure your IT equipment is as free from risks as possible.

As a retail support organisation, we completely understand that a retailer has a great deal to think about on a daily basis to ensure that their business is running smoothly.

Customers, staff, stock and supplies are some of the most important things that retailers bear in mind while their business is open to customers. But what about the aspects that are not so obvious, such as the in store technology?

We all know that in-store technology is precious to retail businesses.  EPoS (Electronic Point of Sale) systems are responsible not only for transacting sales but also vital for critical business information.

Unfortunately, like all technology, EPoS will at some point need to be fixed or replaced.  Failing to plan and prepare for EPoS issues can result in downtime. Downtime for any length can lead to incalculable costs in terms of both missed sales and in reputation.

Here are a few handy tips for you to ensure your in store technology is efficient minimising the risks of failure therefore maximising sales, productivity and reputation.

  1. Beware of pin pad cords – you’ve been there, you’ve seen it. The PIN pad is handed to you, only for the cord to get tangled, spring back and smash against the till.  Keep those cords tidy!
  2. Monitor backlights – it’s not just your PCs that need looking after, if the monitor goes down, the till goes down and you lose sales opportunities.
  3. Cable management – many in-store items aren’t hard wired so best check where those wires are hanging to avoid potential mishaps.
  4. Spillages – keep tea runs to a minimum and employ exclusion zones around your tills and other vital back office equipment.  Is a cuppa really as important as lost sales?
  5. Let your PCs breathe! – computers are not furniture and don’t like A4 reams of paper blocking their fans.  Treat them like a vintage Chippendale and give them space.

COVID-19 POS Equipment Cleaning Guide

Disinfect your POS Equipment & Credit Card Terminals

SCT Response to COVID‐19
At this challenging time our thoughts go out to all our clients, prospective clients and partners in Ireland, UK and Europe and the millions of businesses affected by the pandemic. The global spread of COVID-19 is affecting all of us and we wish each of you, your colleagues and your families’ good health and hope you are safe and well.
At this time SCT head office and our branches are safe and unaffected by the virus and we have a comprehensive contingency plan in place. Our offices are running as normal and no closures are currently planned. If you need to reach out to us, please do not hesitate to contact our team if you have any questions about SCT and our services. We can be reached at any time via email, phone or the contact forms on our website.

Cleaning POS Terminals & Credit Card Terminals
For all the teams working in the retail & hospitality industry, we hope you can remain safe over this period. We understand that the Point-of-Sale area should be disinfected regularly and that the POS Terminal and Credit Card Terminal are a hot spot for contact between your team members and the customer.

We would like to offer some tips regarding disinfecting these devices:
We have conducted numerous repetitive tests to confirm wiping with 75% alcohol on the aluminum chassis, plastics covers and display is effective to clean these surfaces with no problems to the POS materials. Please consult your POS supplier for further guidance if you did not purchase the POS equipment from SCT directly.

We recommend you use the following method:

• Turn off your POS system & Credit Card Terminal completely, include peripherals’ power, and unplug the power cables if possible.
• Get your cleaning material, such as lint-free cloth or cotton swab, prepared with cleaning solutions (e.g. 75% isopropyl alcohol).
DO NOT use any cleaning solutions that contains Acetone, Nitric acid or Ammonia.
• Apply cleaning solution only on the cleaning material.
• Gently wipe the exterior surface and cleaning your POS system & PinPad in a well ventilated environment.

We sincerely wish you all the best of luck as you navigate through these tough times.
Take Care, The SCT  Team

Please call me directly on 0879154532 or email me on jimmurphy@sctpos.ie if you would like to explore any way in which we may be able to assist.

Thank You

Yours Sincerely

Jim Murphy

Covid-19 Store Computer Technology (SCT) – Business Risk Management Update

As we continue to monitor regular updates from the experts on the threat of Covid-19 to people and business in Ireland, we have undertaken several steps in our business to manage the risk associated with;

  • Any Suspected infection which may have a direct impact on our daily operations.
  • Any actual infection which would have a direct impact on our daily operations.

In the past week we have held a number of meetings to discuss the above, with weekly meetings planned going forward until the situation eases.

In summary the steps we have taken are as follows;

  • Assembly of a Covid-19 Response Team to co-ordinate all activities and liaise ongoing with customers
  • Carry out a Risk Assessment in terms of our ability to continue delivering customer services in the event of a suspected or actual infection,
  • Develop a Risk Management Plan covering the key areas including;
    • Help Desk Support
    • Onsite Support
    • Project Deployments
    • Logistics
    • Account Management
    • Administration
  • Schedule a staged trial implementation of our contingency plans covering all the above areas -week commencing 23rd March (or sooner if expert updates change)

We would ask that as an important customer , you would please notify us through your Account Manager or otherwise if any circumstances arise in relation to Covid-19  within your business (including shops and branches) that may likely impact on any of our support staff and consequentially on our ability to deliver services.

Current Business Continuity Actions in a ready to go status:
  • Help Desk Support     — Remote Working Protocols to receive & take calls and distribute requests
  • Onsite Support            — Engineers are individually deployed reducing contact risk between each other
  • Project Deployments — Currently projects in 14 day outlook with confirmed dates are not at risk
  • Logistics                       — Bootstocks have been confirmed and FSL stocked to required levels (stock availability dependent).
  • Account Management – Accounts Protocol escalation to Senior Management
  • Administration            — Remote Working Protocols for Admin Team allowing BCP

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

Yours Sincerely

John Hogan
