Applegreen’s goal was to select a hardware provider capable of seamlessly integrating with their existing suite of POS hardware and back-office systems, ensuring both improved performance and enhanced user experience for staff and customers alike. The selected solution needed to be aesthetically pleasing, cost-effective, and aligned with sustainability goals, offering a Class A warranty and avoiding manufacturing constraints.

At the time, the estate comprised 120 stores in Ireland, 101 in the UK, and 5 in Northern Ireland, requiring a supplier with the capacity to operate across these regions while avoiding potential Brexit-related customs issues.

Another key consideration for Applegreen was the longevity of the hardware. They prioritised a solution with a minimum five-year warranty and an eight-year+ lifecycle to minimise technology waste and promote repair and reuse. Additionally, energy efficiency was a critical factor, as the equipment would be in use or on standby 24 hours a day.
